Problem

In dense urban environments like New York, public mother-and-baby facilities remain limited and unevenly accessible. For caregivers on the move, everyday needs such as feeding, changing, and resting often become difficult to manage in public spaces.

According to NYC Health’s Community Lactation Spaces list, only four public/government-affiliated lactation spaces in Manhattan are clearly accessible to the general public. These locations are clustered in Lower Manhattan and Harlem/East Harlem, leaving a large gap across Midtown and central Manhattan.

02

Existing Solutions

Organizations such as Mamava have expanded access to lactation spaces by mapping and installing privacy pods across the city. However, many listed locations are inside workplaces, hospitals, universities, or secured buildings, making access conditional rather than fully public.

My Solution

Ride-hailing flexibility + private care space = CubCab

CubCab brings a temporary nursery room to parents on demand. Instead of searching for a public facility, caregivers can request a nearby mobile care unit, have it park safely, and use it for feeding, changing, calming, or resting with their baby.

04

User Flow & Benefits

Less walking
Care space comes to the parent, reducing the need to search across the city.

Wider coverage
A smaller number of mobile units can serve more neighborhoods than fixed rooms.

Easy to use
The ride-app model makes booking, waiting, and unlocking immediately familiar.

05

Concept Development

CubCab translates the idea of mobile care infrastructure into a compact vehicle-based nursery. The design combines privacy, safety, and accessibility: tinted windows protect caregivers’ privacy, the interior includes a baby safety seat and caregiving supplies, and the soft exterior language makes the service feel approachable rather than clinical

06

Key Interaction Moments

CubCab turns the service flow into simple, familiar actions: check the verification code, unlock the vehicle, unfold the accessibility ramp, and enter with a stroller. These interaction details make the mobile nursery feel safe, understandable, and easy to use in a busy urban environment.
